Distributor, exhibitor Engel dies
Former critic set up arthouse label Artificial Eye
LONDON — Andi Engel, the German-born founder of U.K. arthouse distrib and exhibitor Artificial Eye, died Dec. 26 in Lubeck, Germany.A former art critic, Engel and his wife Pamela started Artificial Eye in 1976 to distribute foreign-language movies. He directed his only movie, "Melancholia," in 1989.
In recent years, he stepped back from the day-to-day management of the company, which was sold last year to Act Entertainment and Knatchbull Communications.
