Vulcan wraps 'Hard Candy' lensing
Slade completes tech thriller for Allen's prod'n co.
Paul Allen's Vulcan Prods. has completed principal photography on psychological thriller "Hard Candy," toplining Patrick Wilson and newcomer Ellen Page. The film revolves around a 32-year-old man who takes home a 14-year-old girl he met on the Internet. It's directed by first-time director David Slade, produced by David W. Higgins and Jody Patton and written by Brian Nelson.
Wilson is an Emmy contender this year for his work in HBO's "Angels in America."
Vulcan said its business model for "Hard Candy" and its slate of upcoming low-budget films provides equity to the cast and crew in the finished film.
Higgins conceived the story after seeing a news account of Japanese girls who lured businessmen into dangerous situations. He noted the production originally was written to be shot in one location, but the financial backing from Vulcan Prods. allowed use of multiple locations.
Executive producers for the project include Michael Caldwell, Richard Hutton and Rosanne Korenberg, whose Traction Media is representing distribution rights.
