Lensers guild tabs short film winners

Champs screened at Cannes; LA debut set for June

The Intl. Cinematographers Guild on Friday announced winners of its fourth annual Short Film Showcase.

From 70 submissions, the following took top honors: David Armstrong, "John"; Roberto Blasini, "Leaving Drew"; Ted Chu, "Dominant Seventh"; Mo Flam, "The Transformation"; Russell Harper, "Hotel Soap"; Mark Karen, "Children of the Struggle"; Harris Zambarloukos, "First Daughter"; and Mario Zavala, "Puppies for Sale."

"These eight films bode well for the future of our industry," guild national prexy George Spiro Dibie said.

"They are entertaining, engaging and artful, and in each case, the cinematographer played an important role in transforming a script into moving images that tell a story.

The aforementioned pics, all of which screened last week at the Cannes Film Festival, will unspool in Hollywood on June 4 at the DGA Theater. Additional screenings are slated for Gotham, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Dallas and Orlando and Miami.

Competish is designed as a creative outlet for ICG members who are not yet rated as directors of photography.
