Novak ankles CBC, cites cutback plan

Net to cancel 14 local newscasts, lay off hundreds

TORONTO — The head of CBC TV in Alberta has resigned, in part over radical cutbacks that are being considered by the public broadcaster.

The resignation of Joe Novak, regional director of television for the CBC in the Western province of Alberta, and a 20-year CBC vet, came just days after CBC prexy Robert Rabinovitch made public his plans to cancel 14 local supper-hour newscasts nationwide, laying off hundreds of employees.
