Unapix picks up Italo co-prod 'Love'

Unapix Films has picked up North American rights to writer-director Giuseppe Bertolucci's "Probably Love," set to begin lensing in Italy later this month.

Alida Valli and Ferdinando Oliva star in an offbeat story about Sofia, an adventurous but unsophisticated young actress searching for love.

The previous writing credits of Bertolucci, brother of Bernardo, include "1900" and "La Luna." The $4 million "Probably Love" is a co-production of Italy's Navert Film, France's Kien Production and Switzerland's CISA Service S.A.

"The film is a very good example of where we're trying to head," said Deborah Thompson-Duda, Unapix's West Coast-based VP of acquisitions and production. "The storyline completely transcends the international marketplace to a U.S. marketplace."
