Berlin festival hikes its prices

Organizers double accreditation costs

By ED MEZA

BERLIN -- Citing rising costs, Berlinale organizers have doubled accreditation prices from E50 ($64) to $128 for next year's fest, which runs Feb. 5-15.

The package deal for the European Film Market badge and festival accreditation will remain unchanged at $515, however, as will the $386 price for just the EFM screening pass.

Organizers have said the new price is in line with that of other A-list festivals, noting that some charge even more. The fest said costs have risen for the services it provides and pointed to the fact that many screenings are now using digital projection technology.

Festival accreditation allows access to festival screenings and entry to the Martin Gropius Bau market venue and the EFM Marriott Offices during the event.
