De Niro film to open Karlovy Vary

Festival honors actor with Crystal Globe

Robert De Niro starrer "What Just Happened?" will open the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on July 4 with De Niro in attendance.

Thesp will also take home a Crystal Globe for contribution to world cinema.

Directed by Barry Levinson, pic is based on the hit memoir "What Just Happened? Bitter Hollywood Tales From the Front Line" by vet Hollywood producer Art Linson, who wrote the screenplay and produced with De Niro and Jane Rosenthal. 

Fest will also host German thesp Armin Mueller-Stahl, who will open an exhibition of his portrait paintings at the Karlovy Vary Art Gallery.

Nine-day fest has also announced the lineup of 10 Directors to Watch for the Variety Critics Choice: Europe Now! sidebar, with helmers from France, Greece, Slovakia, Denmark, Spain, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Luxembourg and Germany presenting works.
