Lionsgate nabs 'Dangerous' film

Studio acquires rights to Berlin feature

'Bangkok Dangerous'
Lionsgate will release Nicolas Cage starrer 'Bangkok Dangerous' in the U.S. and Canada this summer.
Lionsgate has picked up all North American rights to Danny and Oxide Pang's "Bangkok Dangerous," from IEG Virtual Studios.

Pic, a remake of the Pang brothers' 1999 actioner of the same name, was written by Jason Richman ("Bad Company"). It was produced by Nicolas Cage and Norm Golightly of Saturn Films, and William Sherak and Jason Shuman of Blue Star Pictures.

"Dangerous" stars Cage as an anonymous assassin who travels to Bangkok to handle four kills for an underworld crime boss, but whose conscience becomes his enemy when he meets a local Thai girl.

Lionsgate will release the pic in the U.S. and Canada this summer and has made a "significant" P&A commitment. Sales in other remaining global territories are handled at the Berlin EFM by IEG's sister company, Initial Entertainment Group.

The Hong Kong-based helmers were previously responsible for "The Eye," which Lionsgate released last week as a Jessica Alba-starring remake.
