IFC's got 'Game,' 'Savage Grace'

Indie distributor picks up festival favorites

'Savage Grace'
IFC has set a domestic release for 'Savage Grace,' which preemed at Cannes.
IFC has grabbed two more festival titles for domestic release: "Finishing the Game" and "Savage Grace."

A midnight preem at Sundance, "Finishing" sends up stereotypes and martial-arts pics by envisioning how Bruce Lee's final film, "Game of Death," might have ended up had it been recast and completed after the star's death.

Helmer Justin Lin broke out in 2002 at Sundance with "Better Luck Tomorrow" and then directed "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift."

"Finishing the Game" is scheduled for an October release in theaters and on VOD.

"We've always been fans of Justin, and he also feels very comfortable with us because he was ready for a change after doing studio films," said Arianna Bocco, VP of production and acquisition, who negotiated the pickups.

Julianne Moore starrer "Savage Grace," which marks the return to directing of Tom Kalin ("Swoon"), preemed in Cannes, and word circulated at the end of the fest that IFC had bought it. Legal delays ensued, and the formal announcement finally came Wednesday.
