Weinstein Co. picks up 'Joy Division'

Deal gives TWC companion piece to 'Control'

The Weinstein Co. has picked up "Joy Division," a doc about the proto-New Wave band that went over well at the Toronto Film Festival.

The deal, said to be in the six figures, gives TWC a non-fiction companion piece to "Control," Anton Corbijn's docudrama centered on doomed Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis. TWC acquired "Control" on the heels of its strong Cannes preem.

The deal came together as the Toronto confab entered its final day. There are a couple of films still on the bubble as far as acquisitions but pretty much everything that was going to be bought has been bought.
