Composers in tune with Sundance
Lab matches young musicians with filmmakers
The Composers Lab matches young musicians with filmmakers from the Institute’s Directors Lab and provides them with training and facilities to score scenes shot during the film program’s Directors Lab earlier this summer. “We create a place where composers can focus on stretching their unique musical voice,” says Sundance Film Music Program director Peter Golub.
This year’s Composer Fellows are Irish-born guitarist Kim Carroll; game composer Chanda Dancy; Greek-born composer Magda Giannikou; singer-songwriter Lili Haydn; Young Film Composers Competition winner Christopher Lord; and songwriter-producer David Poe.
Advising the young composers during their intensive two weeks of workshops, writing and recording, are several top composers including George S. Clinton, Osvaldo Golijov, Harry Gregson-Williams, David Newman and Edward Shearmur, as well as music supervisor Tracy McKnight, film editor Walter Murch, agent Vasi Vangelos and BMI VP Doreen Ringer-Ross.
