Searchlight snags 'Once'
Specialty label picks up Sundance fave

Fox Searchlight on Thursday acquired "Once," one of the most buzzed-about pics at Sundance.

Division reportedly acquired U.S. rights to the musical-themed Irish pic featuring the music and members of indie-rock band the Frames.

Movie won the audience prize for World Drama and had been a crix fave since its bow in Park City.

Price was reportedly six figures.

A Searchlight spokesperson did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Summit had picked up many international rights for the pic at Sundance and was shopping them at the fest and after its close. A number of specialty divisions were circling the pic seeking domestic rights.

Move marks yet another major acquisition for the Peter Rice division from Sundance, after big buys for "Waitress" and "Joshua."
