TWC tells toon fables
Weinsteins launch Unstable venture

The Weinstein Co. is launching Unstable Fables, direct-to-video, CG-animated features co-produced by the Jim Henson Co., Flame Ventures and Prana Studios, the company said Saturday.

Pics' screenplays are to be overseen by Roger S. H. Schulman ("Shrek").

Unstable will include a series of titles that will irreverently tell classic tales and incorporate modern twists.  First fables being produced are based on "Goldilocks," "The Three Little Pigs" and "Billy Goats Gruff" stories.

Production is skedded to begin in September. The Weinstein Co. will distribute the films through their Genius Products DVD label.

Henson Co., Flame and Prana will oversee development and animation will be produced via Prana's India facility.

Lisa Henson and Tony Krantz will produce with Prana, and Eric Robinson will oversee on behalf of TWC.  TWC's Michelle Krumm brought the projects and partnership to the Weinsteins.

Weinstein Co.'s international banner will rep overseas rights.

TWC and Genius have been working together to build a library of titles for homevid distribution since December, when the pair entered into an exclusive distribution agreement.
