The Dardennes are two-time Palme d'Or winners for "Rosetta" (1999) and "L'enfant" (2005). They also received the screenplay award for last year's "Lorna's Silence," while regular thesp Olivier Gourmet won the actor award in 2002 for "The Son."
With a background in assistant directing and several documentaries to their name, the fiftysomething brothers busted onto the international scene with "La Promesse" (1996), their gritty third feature, which nabbed best foreign film at Gaul's Cesar film awards.
They have made four features since, and have perfected a handheld, docu-style realism that has influenced arthouse fare worldwide.
