Strand to debut Cannes film in August
Pic, the Argentine writer-director’s third, premiered in Cannes’ competition last year, and careful Stateside handling has been sought for it.
The film stars Maria Onetto as an upper-class woman who becomes paranoid and disoriented after a hit-and-run incident.
Pedro and Augustin Almodovar produced via their El Deseo shingle, with Focus Intl. handling worldwide sales.
The acquisition is an apt fit for Strand given the distrib’s ongoing appetite for challenging, arty fare. Recent Strand purchases include Johan Renck’s “Downloading Nancy” and Max Faeberboeck’s “A Woman in Berlin.”
Strand has set an Aug. 19 bow for “Headless” at Gotham’s Film Forum.
Pic also unspooled at the New York Film Festival and AFI Fest late last year and won prizes at the Rio de Janeiro and Lima film fests.
