Distant Horizon snaps up 'Flashpoint'
Martial arts film pairs Yen, Yip

Distant Horizon has acquired North American rights to "Flashpoint," the martial-arts actioner that pairs Donnie Yen with helmer Wilson Yip for the third time in a row. Pair previously collaborated on "Sha po lang" and "Dragon Tiger Gate."

Pic, which is in post, was licensed by its Hong Kong production and sales house Mandarin Films. Distant Horizon saw footage at the recent FilMart, where "Flashpoint" was one of the buzzed-about projects.

South Africa-based Distant Horizon says the acquisition extends its track record of introducing Asian movies to North America.

"In the past when we have done this we have been able to get involved in the post-production and help optimize things like music for the North American market," said company topper Anant Singh.

Company does not have its own North American releasing structure and will seek a third party theatrical distrib. It released Tsui Hark's "Black Mask" through Artisan Entertainment and "Legends of Zu" through Miramax.

"Flashpoint" is set for release in August in Asia. Distant Horizon has not pinned down dates for Stateside outing.
