David Bloom covers technology and writes long-form features on many entertainment-related topics for Variety from its Los Angeles newsroom. Previously, he covered entertainment and technology issues for Red Herring magazine and the Los Angeles Daily News, and has freelanced for numerous other publications. From 1983 to 1997, he covered politics and government, and worked as an investigative reporter for several newspapers, including the Daily News and Dallas Times Herald, winning awards for projects on such issues as nuclear waste, college recruiting and construction scandals, and the prosecution of the Drug War. He graduated from the University of Missouri journalism school, has two charming and beautiful children, and an alarmingly broad array of interests.
