Title:
Eddie Cockrell is a film critic, public speaker and consulting programmer based in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. Since 1998 he has reviewed international films, notable DVD releases and the occasional Hollywood movie for Variety from the Berlin, Karlovy Vary, Montreal and Toronto festivals. He also writes the U.S. report for the annual Variety International Film Guide, reviews from selected festivals for indieWIRE, www.indieWIRE.com, and Nitrate Online, www.nitrateonline.com, and pens catalogue notes for the annual "New Films from Germany" series at New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Visions cinema/bistro/lounge in Washington. For 15 years, he has been a programmer and senior catalogue editor for FilmFest D.C., ran the non-profit Americas Film Festival Foundation in the mid-1990s, and before that programmed the American Film Institute Theater at Washington's Kennedy Center. On any given spring or fall weekend he may be found presenting sneak screenings of new films with Harlan Jacobson's Talk Cinema or the Key Sunday Cinema Club.
