Mary Sutter began writing for Variety in 1997 as its Mexico City correspondent, having abandoned Gotham and financial journalism in 1995 to head south of the border to learn Spanish and salsa. She relocated in 1999 to Miami, where she primarily covers Latin American and U.S. Spanish-language media and coordinates coverage of Latin America in conjunction with Variety's in-region correspondents.
