Elizabeth Guider was executive editor of Variety in Los Angeles and wrote about entertainment and media subjects for a variety of publications for the last 15 years, from Rome and Paris as well as from London, New York and Los Angeles. She was born and raised in the South, went to college in Atlanta and New York City, and holds a Ph.D. in Renaissance studies from New York University. While working as a freelance journalist in Europe in the '80s, she began contributing stories on media topics to Variety. Elizabeth covered the film and TV business fulltime for Variety in London from 1986 to 1990, writing reviews from the London Film Festival, covering the Cannes Film Fest as well as the Mip and Mipcom TV trade shows in France, reporting on the rise of satellite broadcasting in the U.K. and the media policies of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. She then worked for the paper in New York covering the TV networks and the syndication business.
