The kudo, which honors a producer for “unique or uplifting quality,” will be presented at the 20th annual PGA Awards Jan. 24 at the Hollywood Palladium.
Skoll is the chairman and founder of 4-year-old Participant, which has focused on pics that aim to inspire social change. The PGA honor will be bestowed in recognition of Participant’s roster of pics to date, which include “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “Syriana,” “An Inconvenient Truth,” “The Kite Runner,” “Good Night, and Good Luck,” “Darfur Now,” “Jimmy Carter Man From Plains,” “The Visitor,” “Chicago 10,” “The World According to Sesame Street” and “Fast Food Nation.”
Skoll’s “vision as a media entrepreneur and his commitment to entertain and educate audiences around the world has resulted in powerful films and is only enhanced by his conviction as a philanthropist to global issues that affect all of us,” PGA Awards co-chairs David Friendly and Laurence Mark said in a statement.
Previous recipients of the nod include Joel Gallen (“America: A Tribute to Heroes”), Jim Sheridan and Arthur Lappin (“In America”) and Roy Disney (“Fantasia 2000”).
