'Prophet' grabs six European Film nods
Noms include best pic,director and actor Rahim

Several foreign-lingo Oscar entries pepper the noms for European Film Awards -- Europe's equivalent of the Oscars -- announced Saturday in Seville. Jacques Audiard's prison thriller "A Prophet" leads the nominations with six mentions.

France's entry for the Oscars and winner of Cannes' 2009 Grand Prix, "Prophet" tells the story of an illiterate young Arab-Corsican man condemned to six years in prison. There, he works his way up the ranks while secretly planning his own future.

This year's EFA nomination lineup underscores European Film Academy members' wide-ranging tastes, which often coincide, however, with those of Europe's cinemagoing public.

The other best-pic nominees are Michael Haneke's "The White Ribbon," Danny Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire," Andrea Arnold's "Fish Tank," Stephen Daldry's "The Reader," and Tomas Alfredson's "Let the Right One In."

The Seville Festival's EFA noms ceremony is now firmly established on the fest calendar.

The winners of the 22nd European Film Awards will be announced Dec. 12 in Bochum, Germany.
