The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. will air the 67th Golden Globe Awards live on the West Coast for the first time.
The kudocast is set for Jan. 17 and will air on NBC from 8-11 p.m. EST.
Orly Adelson, prexy of Dick Clark Prods., said the live broadcast was actually intended for the most recent Globes, but the decision was made too late in the game to be implemented.
The new format hopefully will boost viewership of the kudocast, which has slumped in recent years.
"Why go through the Internet?" Adelson said. "You don't have to watch the pre-show somewhere else. You can come to NBC to watch it."
The Academy Awards has aired live ever since its first TV broadcast on March 19, 1953.
The 81st Academy Awards averaged a 12.1 rating in 18-49 and 36.3 million viewers overall, compared with a 4.8 rating in 18-49, 14.6 million viewers for the 66th annual Golden Globes.
Last year's ratings were the lowest scores the Globes have delivered since the ceremony first aired on NBC in 1996.
