"Les Lavigueur" nabbed nine honors, including wins for drama series, lead actor (Pierre Verville) and lead actress (Laurence Leboeuf) in a drama series. The awards were handed out at a ceremony in Montreal on Sunday night.

"Les Lavigueur" aired on pubcaster Radio-Canada, the French-language network of CBC. It was inspired by a working class family who became local celebrities after winning $7.6 million in 1986.

The media openly lampooned them and one of the series' themes was how the media sensationalized the story. The irony was that the series itself was the subject of controversy with some questioning its accuracy.

The second biggest winner was "Le Bye Bye de RBO 2007," the annual New Year's Eve comic revue on Radio-Canada. It garnered six awards, including nods for comedy special and best acting in a comedy (for Andre Ducharme, Bruno Landry, Yves Pelletier and Guy A. Lepage).

Lepage was another of the night's big winners. The Radio-Canada talk show that he hosts, "Tout le monde en parle," was voted best talk show and that show also won the Prix du Public.

Primetime soap "Annie et ses hommes" won five prizes, as did the comedy series "Les Hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin," which was re-made in English as "Sophie" and is set to bow Stateside on ABC Family early in 2009.
