Playwright Hassan Abdulrazzak has scored the 2008 George Devine Award, the annual laurel handed out by London’s Royal Court Theater.
Back to topAbdulrazzak won the honor for his play “Baghdad Wedding,” about the aftermath of an attack on a wedding party in Iraq. Show played to strong notices in London last summer.
Named after the Royal Court founding a.d., the Devine award comes with a cash prize of £10,000 ($19,500). Previous winners include Mike Leigh, Martin McDonagh, Conor McPherson and Rebecca Gilman.
