The Academy Awards are the industry's biggest social gathering, so it's no surprise that everyone wants to look their best. But before you run off to get a last-minute haircut, fitting or facial, be sure to heed the advice of Hollywood's top beauty and fitness experts.

"We have a huge event and we think we need to look fabulous, and so we do something drastic and then we want to kill ourselves," says Frederic Fekkai Melrose Place hairstylist Adir Abergel. "For your hair, your main goal should be making sure it looks healthy, beautiful and shiny."

To achieve this, Abergel recommends getting a slight trim and using an overnight deep conditioning treatment the week before the big night.

Like Abergel, personal trainer Harley Pasternak, whose clientele includes Halle Berry, Eva Mendes, Orlando Bloom and Kanye West, also warns against any big changes the week before the big night. He says when it comes to diet and exercise, "don't try new weight-loss pills or powders and don't do extreme exercise because you may get injured or compromise your immune system."

He suggests upping your cardio workout by 10 minutes and says when trying to burn extra calories, think outside the gym. "Take the stairs instead of the elevator. When going to the store, park in the spot furthest from the entrance and carry your groceries to the car. If you live in New York, get off one subway stop early and walk the rest of the way."

Pasternak says it's also important to make sure you stay well hydrated and keep away from alcohol the night before to avoid feeling bloated. When attending all the parties the week prior to the Oscars, make sure to eat something healthy before you go so don't arrive hungry and indulge in fattening hors d'oeuvres. He suggests carrying a small bag of turkey jerky or dried apples in your purse so you always have a healthy snack to grab.

To make sure you have a picture-perfect complexion, celebrity facialist Kate Somerville says there are two words to keep in mind: exfoliation and hydration. "When you have dead layers of skin, it can cause wrinkles to look deeper and skin more dull," she says "Exfoliating gets rid of this and hydrating gives your skin that perfect glow."
