Sony Pictures acquires 'Creatures'
Whitaker, Hudson, Haley to star in film

Sony Pictures has acquired U.S. distribution rights to "Winged Creatures," the Rowan Woods-directed ensemble drama that stars Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley and Guy Pearce.

The Roy Freirich-scripted drama revolves around a group of survivors of multiple murders in a diner, who come together to try and overcome their trauma. The film just completed filming in L.A., with Robert Salerno producing.

The rights were controlled by Peace Arch Entertainment, the Canadian company that bought the film two weeks ago and will sell territories in Cannes. Pic also stars Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Embeth Davidtz and Jeanne Tripplehorn.

" 'Winged Creatures' is an extraordinarily moving work and Sony has a successful track record with character-driven dramatic features," said Peace Arch Entertainment Group president John Flock.

Aside from that Showtime series and "Winged Creatures," Peace Arch recently completed production on several films that include "The Deal," a comedy that stars William H. Macy, Meg Ryan, LL Cool J and Elliot Gould, and the romantic comedy "Watching the Detectives" with Cillian Murphy and Lucy Liu.
