Short talkin'
To follow up yesterday's piece concerning Best Documentary Short nominee Vanessa Roth, I thought I'd post something here about rash of short film coverage that's out there this week. Magnolia Pictures have launched their short films package into theaters yet again, so these little engines could use the leg up. (Sadly, the doc shorts are not included in the package.)First, USA Today has a great primer up that puts each of the 10 films into context. Stephen Holden, meanwhile, writes up the package for the Gray Lady. The Times also has a great slideshow of images from the films.
Over at The Envelope, Kevin Crust looks specifically at the live action shorts and then at the animated entries. These stories comes on the heels of an interesting 2/10 piece from Sam Adams about the rising popularity of short films with the YouTube generation.
I myself have not had the chance to see the shorts package (busy, busy, busy), but I plan on doing so this weekend some time. I'll be sure to give some personal thoughts next week.
Red Carpet District is Variety contributor Kristopher Tapley's attempt at making sense of the ever-expanding glut of film awards coverage. He's been on the beat for six years. Email
