Rapturous applause for 'Blood'
Hopefully he doesn't get a "piracy" thrashing for recording something inside the theater, but following the earlier posting of his review, Jeffrey Wells now has a solid recording of the crowd breaking out into applause during the closing credits of last night's San Francisco screening of "There Will Be Blood."
This is encouraging, but Wells also mentions that some viewers were "cold or indifferent" to the film. Additionally, he has a longer recording of general reactions to the screening, most of them in the positive. Though it opens on a woman calling it "unmoving" and "pointless." (FYI, there is a MAJOR SPOILER in this recording, so beware.)
Another guy offered lots of love for the score, adding that it was very much like a Kubrick film. And then someone points out what I agree to be the weak link in the chain, Paul Dano's performance and the character he portrays, which the viewer called a "missed opportunity."
Favorite quote: "It's like a psycho version of "The Music Man."
It's worth keeping in mind most of these folks seem to be total film-fanatics, and not at all representative of the general fillm-going public and, perhaps, of the AMPAS.
I love this man on the street stuff!
