Don't Count Out Will Smith Just Yet

You can already hear the chatter in the wake of the so-so opening of "Seven Pounds." Will Smith's winning box office run is over. Finished. Eighty-sixed. Done.

True, "Seven Pounds" only grossed $16 million in its debut, not much more than Smith starrer "Bad Boys" did a decade ago.

A big part of the reason was a major storm in the Northeast that made mincemeat of the Friday box office. Another reason is the storyline itself, which is something of a bummer. But I wouldn't count out the pic just yet. Let's see what happens over the next two weeks.

Why is that people want to declare a film dead based on one weekend? I'm not saying these forecasters are always wrong, but what's the point of all this predicting and bah humbugging? Where's the holiday spirit?

Here's my complete coverage of the weekend box office. And here's my separate story on specialty films.

Hello !!! ^_^
My name is Piter Kokoniz. oOnly want to tell, that I like your blog very much!
And want to ask you: is this blog your hobby?
Sorry for my bad english:)
Thank you:)
Piter.

This film was incredible. Took risks, went beyond my expectations and the love story with Will and Rosario was touching and unforgettable. Loved it and continue to think about it for days.

Agree with blog. Will is great, never count him or anyone out so fast. Wish Will would take on dramatic - heavy drama to show his skills. A powerful black hero - like Sean did with milk, great drama, great acting. Loved pursuit of happy - c'mon will, do an obama type role, like a leader!

will smith is a one note actor
gliding on charisma who now needs to stretch his acting legs w/ serious fare. his success goes to show that people r not very choosy when it it comes to the movies they see. "if will is in it it must b good" NOT!

I anticipate a nice holiday run for "Pounds"..."Happyness" only opened to $25 mil and saw a final gross of $163 mil. Those type of legs will get this one past $100.

Here's hoping Will focuses more on light comedies and action comedies rather than dramas like Seven Pounds and The Pursuit of Happiness.
