'Twilight'--A No Brainer

There's already lot's of breathless chatter about the box office potential of Summit Entertainment's "Twilight," based on the best-selling book series by Stephenie Meyer about a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire. Film opens Friday, and already, hundreds of shows are sold out.

Can there be any doubt but that the movie was destined from the start to be big, considering the ruanway success of Meyer's four books?

Put another way, "Twilight" is a beloved brand among tweens and teenage girls. More than 17 million copies of Meyer's books have been sold worldwide, and translated into 20 languages. A total of 8.5 million have been sold in the U.S.

As we've all seen lately, fangirls are every bit as avid as fanboys when it comes to event movies. Look at the success of pics like "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" and "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."

Here's some fresh "Twilight" stats from MovieTickets.com:

As of 12 p.m. ET today, "Twilight" has already sold out 389 performances at MovieTickets.com, including more than 140 this past weekend alone.
