Midnight Shows of 'Twilight' Beat 'Sex and the City'

Update: "Twilight" did indeed gross around $7 million in midnight shows.

No one's confirming it yet, but look for Thursday midnight shows of 'Twilight' to gross north of $7 million. That easily beats the $2.5 million earned by "Sex and the City" in midnight shows.

What does it all mean? "Sex and the City" posted an opening weekend gross of $57 million, just to give you some idea of "Twilight's" potential. Obviously, the day is still young, and we won't know how Summit Entertainment's "Twilight" is faring until late afternoon or evening. Best guess is that "Twilight" will open in the 50s or 60s, but that's just a guess.

This summer, opening midnight shows of "The Dark Knight" grossed about $15.5 million on its way to grossing $158.4 million for the weekend.

Below is a picture from a Utah theater last night that was taken by Mario Ruiz for the Daily Herald.
