Sundance Buzz Roundup: Day 2
- Just before the power went out on Main Street, "Roman Polaniski: Wanted and Desired" director Marina Zenovich celebrated at the after party with her mom. At the time four buyers were in the mix. Contrary to reports, North American rights did not sell last night. Negotiations are ongoing, as of this morning.
- Anne Thompson has a Day Two wrap-up here, including word on "Sunshine Cleaning."
"This is the movie that will have folks lining up outside the Cinetic Deer Valley condo. It'll go to one of the studio subsids, but probably not for huge dollars."
- Almost 24 hours after "Good Dick's" screening, reaction from critics is decidedly mixed. At the after-party, the anxious cast were told to "hang tight and wait it out." Todd McCarthy weighed in here, saying:
"The teasingly but misleadingly entitled "Good Dick" is an annoying example of self-therapy posing as art."
It also seems our play on the title in a prior post had people confused it was an endorsement. But we just couldn't resist "A strong Good Dick (screening)."
- There is some interest circling "Bottle Shock," particularly with Sony Pictures Classics. Variety's Robert Koehler says it could be in the race for an audience award.
- Koehler also singled out Azazel Jacob's dramatic Spectrum entry "Momma's Man," about a man's decision to move back in with his parents, that had good word from critics after its screening.
DJ Spooky spun at a Sundance House filmmaker party. The team from "Up the Yangtze," celebrated their recent sale to Zeitgeist by dancing into the morning.
