Allen and Taymor at Toronto

The latest films from Woody Allen and Julie Taymor will screen as Gala Presentations in September’s Toronto Film Festival. Anglophile Allen will show his new, London-set Cassandra’s Dream starring Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell as entangled brothers trying to better their dreary lives. An original score by Phillip Glass signals this isn’t a comedy. Taymor’s epic, ‘60s-set musical, Across the Universe (above), weaves her original story into 30 songs of the times, including "Hey Jude," "I Am the Walrus," and "All You Need is Love." Bono and Eddie Izzard star as tour guides to Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood, playing lovers who trip across the turbulent years of the ‘60s – from Liverpool to Greenwich Village to Vietnam. Revolution Studios/Columbia Pictures will handle Across the Universe, while The Weinstein Company will open Cassandra’s Dreams. (Mike Jones)
