Justice vs. brutality
A.O. Scott's midway view of the New York Film Festival reiterates my feelings on the fest circuit this year by comparing the Coens' "No Country for Old Men" and De Palma's "Redacted":..each presents a cold, terrifying vision of a universe where justice is no match for brutality. This may be the dominant mood in American movies this season. Audiences in search of escapism may have to look toward France.
