Erin wants to go to SXSW. Really badly.
Last summer, struggling filmmaker Erin was so smitten with Mumblecore, she YouTubed all over them. And like any devoted fan, she took her time composing the words, wrote it out on cue cards, set up her camera in what appears to be a dorm lobby, and read her treatise - a sweet ode to the "mundane and profound" existence of 20-somethings that she seems to identify with very closely.
Now, she wants to go to the place where Mumblecore congealed - SXSW. She figures that of all the internet fundraising schemes that take off, why not hers? She has until March, when the 2008 edition of the fest rolls out, to raise the travel money. In fact, her deadline is precise:
"I will be flying to Austin on March 6, 2008. The deadline I have set is March 5, 2008 at 4:30 pm, which is what time my bank closes."
