Doug Pray’s new doc “Surfwise” (pictured) and Anton Corbijn's drama “Control” will open and close the inaugural Swerve Festival, September 28-30 in LA. Produced by HDNet, “Surfwise” profiles the life of surf legend and sex guru Dr. Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz, his wife and nine home-schooled children, all of whom lived in a camper and adhered to a strict diet and lifestyle. “Control” stars Samantha Morton with Sam Riley as troubled Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, who committed suicide at 23.  The Weinstein Company will release “Control” October 10. The Swerve lineup also includes the premiere of Mike Hill’s skateboard doc “The Man Who Souled the World” chronicling skater badboy Steve Rocco. 

Presented by Fuel TV and produced by Tommy Pallotta (“Scanner Darkly”), Swerve will also showcase art installations, music videos, and live music performances from Bonde Do Role, Black Angels, and Snowden. Festival director and RESFEST founder Jonathan Wells said, “I'm excited to concentrate all the energy and talent to one city. One of the trademarks of West Coast creative culture is the cross pollination of creative disciplines – art, music and film are interrelated and constantly overlapping. This is the first festival to celebrate that.”  (Mike Jones)
