"Lola Montes" will open Cannes Classics

A restored version of Marcel Ophuls final film, and only color picture, will open Cannes Classics. Starring Martine Carol, "Lola Montes" was inspired by the life of the Countess of Landsfeld, a scandalous dancer and actress of the mid-1800s who became the mistress of Bavaria's King Ludwig.
The lineup for Cannes Classics will be announced in the next few days.

Michael Jones is the film festival editor at Variety.com.
