Palm Springs, celebs, and shorts

The Palm Springs ShortFest lineup is packed with short doses of celebs, including many switch-hitting as helmers.  Kate Hudson directs "Cutlass" starring Dakota Fanning and Virginia Madsen, Kirsten Dunst helms Winona Ryder in "Welcome," and Matthew Modine directs himself in "I Think I Thought" (pictured).  Jessica Biel will also star in "Hole in the Paper Sky," which she produced.  Biel last year received the fest's Rising Star Award.

Other films star Tony Shalhoub ("LA Actors"), David Arquette ("Nosebleed") or feature celeb voices like Sir Ian McKellan ("For the Love of God"), Whoopi Goldberg ("The Descendant"), and Robert Redford ("The New Environmentalists").

The fest will also hold Master Classes by Bill Pullman, William Fraker, and a session on film critism with David Ansen (Newsweek) and Claudia Puig (USA Today).

Fest runs August 21-27.  Full lineup here.
