SXSW: The kids are alright. Adults, not so much.

Around every corner at SXSW Interactive there's a kid on a guitar "simulacra" (see the comment to this post).  The rock video games that have completely taken the industry are also a mainstay of parties here.

And when the adults can't jam quite as good as the eight-year-olds, there are always cheats.  Here, Chris Gore types in a cheat code before the next session, which despite what he says, does not make the rock game punk rock.

For the kids waiting their guitar "simulacra" turn, they quickly fall into the roll-playing trap.  Here a Wizards of the Coast rep indoctrinates some innocents into the company's own brand of nicotine delivery device - Magic: The Gathering.  Addicts of this game boast of their personal deck's value - if you haven't spent $5 grand on cards, don't even sit down.

Meanwhile, outside the convention hall at the lego dump, the adults struggle with their own old-school interactive devices.  This man explained his sculpture had taken all day to assemble.

Comments

From the OED: Guitar, noun. A musical instrument of the lute class, with six strings, which are twanged with the right hand, and a handle or finger-board provided with frets for stopping the notes with the left hand. I know it may seem like that ''six strings'' part is a nuisance, but those simulacra pictured above are definitely not guitars. I respectfully request on behalf of all musicians that the errata are corrected.
