17Too Much Information?
With gay couples in California getting married in droves, a research study on the role of biology in sexual orientation should be receiving special attention this week. Using brain-scanning equipment, researchers discovered remarkable similarities between the brain circuitry of gay men and straight women. Published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, the study found that the area of the brain that processes emotions looked much the same in gay men and straight women and that both groups had higher rates of depressive disorders than did heterosexual men.
For many couples lining up for matrimony this week, I’m sure that these studies represent “too much information.”
