Jerry Lewis will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 81st Academy Awards.
Back to topThe AMPAS board of governors will bestow an Oscar statuette to the comedian at the Feb. 22 ceremony.
"Jerry is a legendary comedian who has helped thousands upon thousands by raising funds and awareness for those suffering from muscular dystrophy," said Acad prexy Sid Ganis.
The New Jersey native founded the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. in the early 1950s. It has raised more than $2 billion through its annual MDA Labor Day Telethon.
Previous Jean Hersholt honorees include Sherry Lansing, Quincy Jones and Paul Newman.
Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 22.
