The neo-Western, adapted from a Cormac McCarthy novel and starring Tommy Lee Jones and Javier Bardem, also won for director (Joel and Ethan Coen), adapted screenplay, editing, cinematography and supporting actor (Bardem).
Daniel Day-Lewis was awarded the actor prize for his barnstorming turn as an oil man in Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood," while Julie Christie took the actress award for her perf as an aging woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease in Sarah Polley-helmed "Away From Her."
