Agoglia returns to TV Acad exec board

NBC Enterprises prexy John Agoglia, who resigned from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences executive committee after the organization inked an exclusive broadcast deal for the Emmys with ABC, has agreed to rejoin that body.

The move follows by only a few weeks the Academy's decision to establish a four-network broadcast rotation, eliminating the last two years of its ABC pact (Daily Variety, March 29).

NBC will broadcast the awards in 1998 under the new agreement, which takes effect beginning next year.

NBC and CBS officials had boycotted ATAS activities, including the Primetime Emmy Awards, as retaliation for the ABC arrangement. In addition to Agoglia, NBC VP Linda Mancuso also gave up her seat as a governor representing the Academy's children's programming branch.

Agoglia's appointment, by ATAS president Richard Frank, is subject to approval by the board of governors at their next meeting. He would replace Marcy Carsey, a principal in the Carsey-Werner Co., who quit, citing time constraints.

Continuing as appointed members of the exec committee are ABC Entertainment prexy Ted Harbert, Warner Bros. TV chief Leslie Moonves, Fox Broadcasting chairman Lucie Salhany, New World TV/Marvel Prods. exec Susan Simons and Ken Ziffren, partner in the law firm of Ziffren, Brittenham & Branca.

Those members join six ATAS officers, ATAS Foundation president Thomas Sarnoff and two elected members from the board of governors on the 15-member exec committee, which expanded its authority over Academy administrative matters last year.
