South Coast sked has 'Heart,' 'Wit'

South Coast Rep will present the world premieres of two plays -- Craig Lucas' "God's Heart" and Margaret Edson's "Wit"-- during its 1994-95 season. The 31st sesh, running Sept. 9 through July 2, will feature 11 plays.

On the Mainstage, "A Streetcar Named Desire" runs Sept. 9 to Oct. 9; "God's Heart," directed by Norman Rene, runs March 3 to April 2.

Under consideration for the other four slots are commissioned plays by Donald Margulies, Eric Overmyer and David Henry Hwang; and/or William Wycherley's "The Country Wife," Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard," Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" and another of Alan Ayckbourn's play cycle, "Intimate Exchanges."

The Second Stage season includes "Jar the Floor," running Nov. 4 to Dec. 4, and "Wit," playing March 17 to April 16. Contenders for the other three offerings include David Mamet's "Oleanna," A.R. Gurney's "Later Life" and the world preem of Cecilia Fannon's "Green Icebergs."

"A Christmas Carol" runs on the Mainstage Dec. 2-24, but is not part of the subscription season.
