Two join 'Perez' family

Samuel Goldwyn Co. has inked "A Bronx Tale" star Chazz Palminteri and mambo great Celia Cruz to star in its upcoming comedy "The Perez Family."

Last month, Goldwyn announced that Marisa Tomei, Anjelica Huston and Alfred Molina would topline the pic.

Palminteri starred in and scripted last year's "A Bronx Tale," which Robert De Niro directed. He recently finished workon Woody Allen's upcoming "Bullets Over Broadway" and is in pre-production on "Faithful," a film he wrote and will star in, with Paul Mazursky directing.

Among film appearances for Grammy winner Cruz are the Armand Assante/Antonio Banderas starrer "The Mambo Kings," and the Mexican pic "Amorcito Corazon."

"The Perez Family," one of Goldwyn's most expensive projects of the year, is directed by Mira Nair ("Mississippi Masala"), with a screenplay by Robin Swicord from Christine Bell's novel. Michael Nozik and Lydia Pilcher are the producers.

Production begins on the film April 4 in Miami, then moves to Puerto Rico.
