Streisand sells out in 1 hour
An estimated 250,000 tix were sold.
Streisand spokesman Dick Guttman said the 18 shows -- 12 previously announced and six added to help accommodate demand -- were sold out within one hour. He said 5 million phone calls jammed lines at the Ticketmaster outlets and there were long lines at box offices.
Guttman estimated that each show will bring in $ 2 million. Together with four concerts set for London, the tour should total $ 45 million, he said. Each concert will have a tie-in to charity.
The tour begins with the London shows April 20. The first U.S. show will be in Washington May 10 and then move on to Detroit, Anaheim, San Jose and New York.
Three of the added shows will be in Anaheim, two in New York and one in Detroit.
In Anaheim, hundreds of fans lined up outside the Arrowhead Pond arena to buy tickets. Streisand was due to perform there May 25, 27 and 29, but has now added shows for May 31 and June 2 and 4.
The singer/actress/director gave up concerts 27 years ago.
