ASCAP panel taps Sondheim

The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers has named veteran Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim to its board, filling the void left by the death last January of Stanley Adams.

Sondheim, a member of the performing rights society since 1957, will open his latest effort, "Passion," on Broadway April 28.

"It is an honor to welcome (Sondheim) to the board of ASCAP," said Marilyn Bergman, the org's recently installed president. "His voice is a most important addition to the board and to the entire membership."
