'Corrina' moved to August

By DAN COX

New Line Cinema, anticipating boffo revenue from schoolchildren on their summer break, pushed back its release date for "Corrina, Corrina" to Aug. 19.

The Whoopi Goldberg starrer was set for a May 6 release.

New Line marketing honcho Mitch Goldman on Monday said the pic was "repositioned" to capitalize on summer B.O.

"We believe this is a smart, strategic move because our research indicates that this film plays exceptionally well to families," Goldman, prexy of New Line marketing, said. "We take full advantage of its broad commercial appeal and the tremendous popularity of the film's stars."

Scripted and helmed by Jessie Nelson, the pic stars Goldberg as a quirky housekeeper who rekindles the lives of a recently widowed father (Ray Liotta) and his daughter (Tina Majorino).

Co-starring arethe late Don Ameche, in his last feature performance, Joan Cusack, Larry Miller and Jenifer Lewis. Steve Tisch and Paula Mazur are producers. Sources at New Line said the film received raves from exhibitors in its screening at NATO/ShoWest in Las Vegas last week.

Some industry insiders said New Line might be worried about competing with a heavy slate of early-summer pix, including "City Slickers II,""Wolf,""Beverly Hills Cop III" and "The Flintstones."

But New Line sources maintained that the release change was prompted by positive feelings about the pic rather than fear of opening too early.
