'Savage Nights' high in Gotham, L.A. amid B.O. dip
"Savage" also did well in its debut at the Laemmle Sunset 5 on the West Coast , less so at the Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion. Sony Pictures Classics' "Belle Epoque" had a strong L.A. opening and held tough in New York.
The following is a list of weekend grosses for films released in New York and Los Angeles.
Los Angeles
"Savage Nights" (Gramercy) opened to $ 4,866 at the Samuel Goldwyn Pavilion and $ 14,552 at the Laemmle Sunset 5.
"Belle Epoque" (Sony Pictures Classics) opened at the Laemmle Royal to $ 15, 025.
"Midnight Cowboy" (MGM/UA) slid 26% to $ 13,344 in its second weekend of rerelease at the Mann Bruin.
"Apex" (Republic) debuted to $ 6,059 at the Hollywood Pacific.
"The Cement Garden" (October) off 30% to $ 4,439 in its second at the Landmark NuArt.
"Silent Tongue" (Trimark) fell 28% to $ 3,176 in its second at the Cineplex Beverly Center.
"Fiorile" (Fine Line) slipped 28%to $ 3,155 in its third at the AMC Fine Arts.
"Twogether" (Borde Film Releasing) was off 25% to $ 1,748 in its fourth at the Laemmle Monica.
"Wicked City" (Streamline) crashed 76% to $ 1,403 in its second at the Laemmle Monica.
"The Life & Times of Allen Ginsberg" (First Run) was down 12% to $ 539 in its third at the Landmark NuArt.
New York
"Sirens" (Miramax) opened to $ 14,946 at the 68th Street Playhouse and $ 19, 353 at the Angelika.
"Belle Epoque" slipped 4% to $ 20,519 in its second at the Lincoln Plaza and 9% to $ 13,152 in its second at the Eastside Playhouse.
"Savage Nights" was up 2% to $ 23,432 in its second at Angelika.
"Midnight Cowboy" was down 24% to $ 14,244 in its second at the Baronet.
"Fiorile" dropped 15% to $ 8,178 in its fifth at the Lincoln Plaza and 3% to $ 4,643 in its fifth at the Village East.
"Silent Tongue" slipped 42% to $ 3,303 in its second at the Loews Tower East and 45% to $ 4,496 in its second at the Loews Village Sevenplex.
"The Cement Garden" was down 15% to $ 6,439 in its fourth at the Angelika.
"Where the Rivers Flow North" (Caledonia) opened to $ 1,791 at the Angelika 57 and $ 1,768 at the Village East.
"The 24th Intl. Tournee of Animation" (Samuel Goldwyn) opened at the Quad to $ 2,994.
"Paris, France" (Alliance) fell 28% ($ 2,987) in fifth at the Quad.
